The Eyfs ... paperwork ... and Ofsted leaflets

I was reading a report from Ofsted about paperwork the other day. It seemed to suggest that Childminders would be ok doing less paperwork.

To say I was shocked was an understatement! I know a lot of childminders who have been pulled up at inspections because they don't have enough / sufficiently detailed risk assessments; their observations and planning are not in enough detail; their policies and procedures are not considered sufficient (despite them not being statutory under Eyfs); their SEF wasn't done (despite, again, it not being a requirement) etc.

What worries me is that childminders will read this new Ofsted leaflet and become complacent. They will think they don't have to do things ... and when their inspections come round, they will be unprepared. You only have to read through reports on the Ofsted website to see the detail inspectors are expecting...

So what will happen next? My feeling is that a lot of childminders will receive lower grades at their inspections if they do not do what is required... and advised by the guidance of the Eyfs.

I hope I am wrong.
