It’s been an eventful few weeks here at Knutsford Childminding!
We came back from a wonderful holiday rested and refreshed and full of new ideas for activities for the children and things to do in the garden to enhance provision during the warmer months.
My partner, while sharpening a knife, managed to cut the tendon in his thumb... so that’s him off work now for 10 weeks! My daughter has finished her exams and is now home until September... the house is more cluttered than usual with bodies but at least the mindees are getting lots of play experiences and attention from a range of adults!
I have been working on a new e-book on the popular theme of transport, which is now finished and on my website. I have also tackled the subject of listening to children... and found it absolutely fascinating.
I had never properly realised before the huge difference between asking children a question and nodding to their answer and really listening to what they are saying. Really listening takes a lot more concentration and time than simply nodding along... it also means feeding back when they have given their opinions and asking again to ensure they feel fully involved in the things that are going on around them.
I hope I have shown in the e-book how my involving the children in their own learning and development by using my new listening skills has reaped big rewards for everyone.
We lose 2 children at the end of term... we will miss them!
We are hoping to find some new mindees to join us soon. In the meantime I will concentrate on a new e-book about boys and how best to support their learning and development.
Speak soon! :)
